Exciting CGA News for 2021 & Happy Holidays!

“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.”

-Thomas Jefferson

I have always found this quote exceedingly funny. Those who know me best know I rarely sit around waiting for luck to present itself. Preparedness met by opportunity is my kind of luck.

From its inception in 2018, the CGA has been a labor of love and hard work on behalf of myself and a handful of dedicated volunteers. It has not been an easy project to sustain due to the level of work it requires. I often felt I could hear the spinning of wheels searching for traction while I silently thinned carrots in the middle of a season. But in my heart, I knew those wheels would eventually find the grip they needed as long as I stayed true to the mission. “Grow food. Create access. Feed the hungry.”.

Amidst the challenges and struggles of a complicated year, those spinning wheels finally found a bit of ground to grip.

I am so pleased to announce that for our fourth season we will be taking over (preparedness) the nearly two acres of agricultural land, previously run by New School Farm, in Vinegar Flats (opportunity).

We have collaborated with Whitney Jacques of New School Farm for the past two years as a way of bolstering the amount of produce offered to our community recipients. First by receiving generous donations from her team, then moving on to tend our own farm plot of crops this year. Whitney has worked this ground for the past eight years and we are honored to be given the opportunity to continue the legacy she built.

Changes You’ll Notice

During this transitional period, the CGA has absorbed the New School Farm’s non-profit status. As we raise donations in order to continue serving our community, you may notice either name being on donation forms and receipts for a limited time until we get everything consolidated under the CGA.

Help Us Help Our Community

Every season we are humbled and profoundly encouraged by the outpouring of generosity from the community we serve. Please consider helping us achieve great things in the seasons to come.

This season we grew over 2,000 pounds of vegetables and provided more than 20 families with weekly deliveries of fresh, organic produce at no charge. With the addition of the new garden in 2021, we will have the capacity to increase production and community impact by 150%!

Our goal is to achieve this growth sustainably by incrementally increasing our planting over the next four years.

With your support we will continue to grow food, create access and feed the hungry in our community for many years to come.
